New Toys

We have got some new toys at school to play with during wet lunch times.
This is what we think of our new toys.

Dog Handler

Today we had the police dog handlers come to school. They showed us what  the police dogs do. We found out that police dogs search for missing people, they track down people who have run away from the police. 

Statistics

Today we counted how many people were wearing socks. We found out that 9 people were wearing socks.
We also sorted out our  shoes. We found out that most people wear shoes with velcro on them.

Moth

On Monday some of Room 12 students found a moth on the wall outside the class room. We brought it inside and we looked at the differences between a moth and a butterfly. 

After we had looked at it we let it go.

Hero Day

On Friday we had "Hero' dress up day. Some of us got dressed up. After play the school had a parade. 

Statistics

On Thursdays for Maths we are working with Room 14 and Mrs Calman and learning about statistics.
We are learning to sort, count  and compare. We sorted all the children in the class to see if we had more girls or boys in the class. We found out that we have more girls than boys. 

We were all given some coloured beans. We had to sort them and see which colour bean we had the most of.

We have also looked at how many letters in our names and sorted what                                                            was the most common letter used in our names.

Quad Blogging

Next week we are taking part in Quad Blogging again. We are linking up with 2 other classes around the world, where we will learn from them and comment on their class blogs. We will be working with E6 class from Eastern Hutt School in Lower Hutt and Reception Class at Stubbins Primary School, England. we beginning by commenting on E6 Superstars blog. We have been reading different Mrs Wishy Washy stories. We used our Red Hat thinking to talk about how Mrs Wishy Washy was feeling. 



We then made our own Mrs Wishy Washy.

Beach Saftey

Today the junior school went to Castlecliff beach to learn about beach safety. We had a great day and learnt a lot about being safe at the beach. We learnt about:

• slip on some protective clothing
• slop on some sunscreen (Check the expiry date)  
• slap  on a hat
• slide into some shade
• wrap on your sun glasses

We also learnt what a rip could look like and not to swim in one. We also learnt that we have to swim between the flags and if we get into trouble to put our arm straight up. We had a great day in the water learning about wading, boogie  boarding and surf rescue.

                         

Alex also got to dress up as a surf life saver. Doesn't he look great.

Fitness

This week for fitness we have been skipping. Each day we have got better at our skipping.

Skyping

Today we had a skype session with  Mrs Sanchez class  from Wichita, KS. America. It was only Thursday in America and for us it was Friday. Mrs Robertson read The Pungapeople of Ninety Mile Beach then MrS Sanchez read us a story about school. We enjoyed the story, and are looking forward to skyping with them again.

'I Went' writing

This week our words of the week were 'I went'. We all talked about somewhere we went. We then used revelation Art to draw our pictures then we wrote our  'I went' sentences using google presentations. We enjoyed doing our writing using these tools.

                                

The Habits of mind we used to complete this task were' Persisting, thinking flexibly, Creating, Imagining and Innovating.

Be Funky

Today Room15 came in and showed us how to use 'Be Funky'. what do you think of our funky pictures.

Duffy Books

On Friday in Assembly Tamelia received a Duffy book for 'good buddy reading'. Well done Tamelia we hope you enjoy your book.

Merit Certificate

In Assembly on Friday Gian received a merit certificate for 'persisting at the obstacle course during fitness and for becoming quicker each day.'  Congratulations Gian.

Buddy Class

Our buddy class for the year is Room 15. On Friday they came and read us their holiday stories.

Certificates

Today we had our first junior assembly for the year. Ashley and Alex both got  welcome certificates as they are both new to Carlton School. Alex also received a certificate for fantastic writing. Well done Alex.
