On Monday some of Room 12 students found a moth on the wall outside the class room. We brought it inside and we looked at the differences between a moth and a butterfly.
After we had looked at it we let it go.

Hi Room 12. We had a look at your photos today of the moth you found. We had a long think about what butterflies and moths have in common and what the differences might be. Everyone in our class agreed that butterflies and moths have wings so that is something they have in common. We thought perhaps the difference between butterflies and moths is the colour but we aren't sure about that. Riya said she has seen moths flying at night around her front porch light. She has never seen a butterfly flying at night. I wonder if that is a difference? We are going to have to do some investigating! I wonder if you can tell us what you decided a difference is between a moth and a butterfly? We would love to know! From E6 and Mrs Graham.
