We read the big book 'The hungry giants shoe' by Joy Cowley.'
This story is about a giant who lost his shoe. He asked the villages to help find it. They looked everhwere for it but they could not find it.
Mrs Robertson did not read us the whole story to start with. We had to see if we could guess where the giants shoe was. We all used 'Tux Paint' to draw where we thought his shoe was. Take a look at our pictures to see where we thought it was.
Where do you think the giants shoe will be?

Museum Visit
Today we went to the museum to see the star lap. We learnt all about the Maori New Year Matariki.
What is Matariki? Matariki is Known as the Māori New Year, Matariki is one of the most significant celebrations on the Māori calendar and is becoming increasingly well-known and celebrated throughout New Zealand
It is the appearance of the star cluster Pleiades or Seven Sisters in the north-eastern pre-dawn sky in late May-early June – there is no exact date. Celebrations most often begin after the next new moon after Matariki has risen, which is 12 June this year. (www,scoop.co.nz)
During Matariki, we celebrate our unique place in the world. We give respect to the whenua on which we live, and admiration to
our mother earth, Papatuanuku. Throughout Matariki, we learn about those who came before us. Our history, our family, our
bones. Matariki signals growth. It's a time of change. It's a time to prepare, and a time of action. During Matariki, we acknowledge
what we have and what we have to give. Matariki celebrates the diversity of life. It's a celebration of culture, language, spirit and
people.(www.nzafa.com)

New Class Member
Today we got a new class memeber. We had heard alot about this new class member and today we got to meet Piata. Room 14 had seen him and looked after him till they could find us. They had fun looking after Piata along with their new class mate Kingi.
Can you guess who our new class member is?
We enjoyed sharing our lunch with Piata and showing him around the school.
Tenesha showed Piata how we sit and listen to a Tumble book. They both enjoyed the story we listened to.
We had asked Piata where he was going to stay. Today he told us that he would like to stay at each of our houses as long as we look after him. Javae took Piata home today. We cant wait to hear what they did.
