Reading with Fluency

During reading Emily and Caleb have been learning to read with fluency. They both recorded each other reading 'Greedy Cat'. 

The Jigaree

We read the big book 'The Jigaree' by Joy Cowley. With Mrs Derby we drew our own Jigaree. We think they are pretty neat.

Mrs Wishy Washy

We have been reading different Mrs Wishy Washy stories. We used our Red Hat thinking to talk about how Mrs Wishy Washy was feeling. 



We then made our own Mrs Wishy Washy.

Skyping

Today we had a skype session with  Mrs Sanchez class  from Wichita, KS. America. It was only Thursday in America and for us it was Friday. Mrs Robertson read The Pungapeople of Ninety Mile Beach then MrS Sanchez read us a story about school. We enjoyed the story, and are looking forward to skyping with them again.

The rainbow Fish

This week we are going to be reading the rainbow fish as our shared reading.

Buddy Reading

Today the monkeys had to read to a buddy as part of our daily five rotations. Cody and Blake showed how fantastic they are at buddy reading. Take a look at how they are sitting closely together and the book is between them. Well done boys.

Certificates

Today in Junior Assembly the Giraffes reading  group received certificates as they are  remembering to use their reading strategies when they come to words they don't know and then they re-read. WOW what great readers you are becoming.

Moth or butterfly?

Today the Giraffes Reading group read the book 'The Baby Owls'. In the book there was a moth. Many of us do not know the difference between a moth and a butterfly so we decided that we would find out the differences between a moth and a butterfly.

Daily Five

In class this week we have begun the 'daily five'. We have been practicing reading to our self. We have also been working on listenng to reading, writing, and reading to a buddy.

Week 4 Mystery Reader

This week our mystery reader was Marty Benton. Marty is not only our office lady Mrs Benton husband but he is also a firemen. We were allowed to try on his helmet and his jacket which we discovered was very heavy. Marty then read us to stories. We enjoyed being read to by Marty. Thank you.

Week 3 Mystery Reader

This week Mrs Gordan was our mystery reader. She first talked to us about working on a farm and milking cows. We enjoyed Mrs Gordan reading to us.
